The Festive Season

The Festive Season

Christmas is round the corner. I can feel it walking down the streets of Tokyo.

Some may feel it odd that non-Christian nowadays celebrate this season as well. I used to have no interest in it either until recently. Now, seeing the world being connected, borders being erased, and people sharing values, I realize how wonderful it is to enjoy these festive months regardless of our backgrounds.

Several people criticize us for adopting events that had nothing to do with Asian cultures, and celebrating it in a non-traditional manner (for example, Japanese Christmas is a huge day for in-love couples, not for family!) What really matters, however, is the foreign season spreads the joy and happiness. Globalization is all about sharing, so why not let your traditional festive day be celebrated in a new way by people from different regions?
